The current timeline is starting to warm up – hopefully. Start of the year, getting momentum (Not for me tho, haha, I have more than enough!), new hopes – mine is that finally we could play with my intended game pieces. I’ve started to sketch up some beaver characters last night, to test the artstyle. Or I mean to try to experiment with one, as I haven’t really done this before. Very exciting, also hopefully we will get into the busiest test season anyone has ever seen before. I’m very hopeful!
Whoooosh – back in time again, and let’s start with some probability theory. Exciting, isn’t it? Last time I did that was around highschool graduation… So while I was long lost in the combat system, this dice magic and balance grabbed my attention big time. The quickly found https://anydice.com/ site truly amazed me, as I was wandering in the jungle of these graphs and their translations into my game. In the process I layed down some boundaries:
- the dice will be 6 sided, regular, perfect cubes
- the markings on them will help to determine at least some real calculable probability – so basically that some numbers will repeat
- there will be multiple dice – their numbers will be determined by the conditions of the fight

So I made a lot of these rolling “simulations” which provided me revelations and experience (mainly from their multiple graph system) – some of them are evident for most, I guess, but not for me. I’ve been experimenting with different number compositions on sides with various numbers of cubes – against cubes, and finally determined the 1.0 main principles of the fight:
- both sides start with one cube
- based on the situation they could get more : the attacker gets +1, the higher position gets +1
- all of the cubes have the following numbers on them 0-1-1-2-2-3
- the difference of the two summa will determine how many units the lower value’s faction lose (but not more than the participating number of the winner faction)
…and some wannabe niche exceptions: the emperor will have a different cube? The factions all have a special cube which they could use while participating in a fight? These cubes may have the ULTIMATE skill of the faction which they could activate in rare conditions? Plus, of course – the desire to put the bluffing in somehow (for which I had some ideas already here).

Finally, after making the core of the fight “clear” I managed to decide between the battling ideas and cross out some (temporarily – ofc), herding and shaping them into one – very wide – direction. So the vague idea looks like this: at the start both parties roll their dice, based on the conditions – in a nice, dedicated, cute, opaque cup. The attacker decides who speaks first. If the opposing party believes the statement, they speak. If both parties believe the other, they don’t reveal the cubes, rather just carry out the result, and losing party retreat with the remaining units. If someone does not believe, the other shows the cubes and based on the truth one of them nullifies their rolled number.
Huh, it was hard to understand from my notebook in hungarian, so some of you may be lost here, but fear not, this couldn’t be the final state of the fight, as I’m afraid this way is still too long and suspends the fluidity of the gameplay… and I haven’t even spoke about the retreating conditions (based on the parties role and position).
[At last here are some ideas, randomly thrown in here:
The liar loses the fight and every unit. The liar loses a cube. The higher position determines the first speaker. The second speak could retreat before stating anything. The higher position could retreat in any ways. Both parties start with 5 cube and subtract some, based on the conditions. Rerolling cube abilities.]
A final personal note: this writing is a bit frustrating, as in my enthusiasm, I really would like to include EVERYTHING from my creative process… but fortunately enough time passed, that I really only remember the important stuff – so I could summarize that here. I hope this goal has been reached, and I haven’t forget anything important and don’t bother you Dear Reader with the insignificant nuances (which are the reason and the main content of this blog tho, haha).
See you next time, where I expect to reach my physical notebook’s end, and switch to digital.
